User-Contributed Transcription Saturday eve. Dec 7th 1850Probably if I had been "severely talked to" it wouldhave made me so contrary that I should not write at allbut as I do not consider myself thus reprimanded, I willendeavor to report to your satisfaction.I have been at home oneweek, had a fine time at the institute, boarded with Mrs. Woodburyformerly Lizzy Power, they live opposite Ellen Greeleys, a very pleasantfamily. Mr Power has changed invitations with Mr Stevens whokeeps the boarding house at Foxcroft, expects to move to thevillage soon - Mary is in Charleston Mass.Proff Sheperd delivered threelectures before the institute, very interesting indeed, preachedsabbath day in the academy - Mr Eaves(poor weak mortal!)undertook to find fault with his lectures, probably they weretoo deep for his comprehension, I suppose you rememberthe "young maidens and their beloved's"; which wereso pathetically spoken of at the picnics! Margrett Crosby andher brother were at the institute a few days, she is a goodgirl isn't she? Mr Parker was President, what a funny manhe is sometimes; we were reading one of Ms. Candle's curtain lectures one day; Mr Humphrey told the ladies toread it in earnest, yes said Mr Parker "the women willmake that go"!
