User-Contributed Transcription here that it seems almost folly to make any calculation upon the future at least so far as to let our happiness depend upon the stability of human events. and yet we cannot separate them. they are so mixed that death alone can clean the tangled web, I suppose that it is not designed that we should be free from the influences which are about us on every side, and we should also remember that that we are not passive objects but active, in our turn exerting always an influence on all with whom we come in contact, and I suppose that it is wise not indolently to drift with the mass but to use all the normal strength we have to direct its course aright,Affectionately yours,S.W.
