FurberDec 29 1864Cottage Grove Dec 29th 1864Dear Friends,I have often thought of writing to you within this past year but lack of matter of any interest to communicate had deterred me. In that respect, I am no better off now but write for friendship's sake and in hope of hearing of your welfare or in returnI learned from Samuel that you had purchased the Bluffs farm for Mr Chas Rich Bell wishes to know if he is still living there. I think it is a nice little place, near enough to the village (do you call Elyria a village?) to have the benefit of good schools, meetings society even. I would like know how you succeeded in your peach orchard experiment at Du Quoin, Did you trees suffer being frozen the unusual cold of last winter? I should like to know something about Perpendicular writing on left side of page Please excuse this horrid scribbling Remember me with much love to your mother and all of the rest --- Regards with love Bell
