I have been intending to answer it every day Since, but have been very much engaged making a dress for Mother. She has had another letter from Gen. Hodsdon, wherein he threatens to call the first time he visits Bangor, so I thought Mother must have a new dress to appear in on that "'portant 'casion!" Your last letter to me was short - a half sheet, - and I am in great haste, have not much to write and considerable newspaper intelligence to send, you must content yourself with a short letter this time. Charles & Albina came last week for Charlie - they staid only one night - went home through Exeter & spent a night at Mr. Cutler's. Almeida & all the children kept house & took care of Josie while they were gone. The children attend school- Lyman Keen teaches. Samuel started for the woods Monday, this week. He purchased a small, fleet horse the saturday previous for $88. He goes on the Spoffard town, Millinocket, Nalsemuk, and I can't tell you where else - nearly the same as last winter I think. He concluded it would be cheaper and easier to buy a horse, as he has sleigh & harness, there to pay stage fare, eight or ten dollars a trip. He has bought out his partners in the Mill - Palmer & Johnson - thinks he has made over a
