User-Contributed Transcription just had quite a rain. Samuel hoped enough to bring down his logs, but he thinks not; he says there was hardly ever such a season known before - no rise of water from June till Sept. Logs are so high, that his business will not favorably prove so profitable this year as last. I have had two letters from Mother - she is deliberating about going to N.H. It seems hard to her to go alone. I know if she had somebody to go with her she would go. Did I tell you in my last letter that Father Sawyer - 98 years old - preached one evening not long since, an hour and twenty five minutes! his hearers were weary if he was not. Our little P.P. Percie prospers finely- as great a hand for a frolic as you ever saw - he begins to show considerable understanding of matters & things, especially when we play with him - he holds playthings and throws them about at a great rate - and almost sits alone. would before now if I had strength of back to work over him & teach him how. I will put in a bit of his hair - see if it is not very like in color to your baby's. By the way, we all regret that you did not decide upon Du Quoin for his name. I really
