User-Contributed Transcription me. Mr. Thaxter expended ten dollars last year in Christmas presents! He is a firm methodist. Real pleasant sociable, clever man. Next Sab. eve commences a series of Union lectures alternately at 1 PM. Pomroy's and Hammond St. I do verily believe that the prevailing opinion that our good friend Pomroy is strongly inclined to indolence is not without foundation. I don't think of any more news, and as for thinking enough to write any thing else, I am so hurried and my poor brain so confused it is out of the question. Ann's school is pleasanter then usual - few boys - about 35 scholars - no large ones. She is 'driv' of course, short days teaching school. Jos. is the same thinking, querying, studious fellow as ever - boards only two or three doors from me. Eliab prospers as usual. I have not seen him since I came here (a fortnight since) till this morn before meeting a ? five minutes, so you may conclude that in the general drive, he is 'driv', or he would call to see me oftener. My Mr. Thaxter is in company with William Jewell, corn & flour dealers. An Odd Fellow besides. Why don't you be an Odd Fellow or S. of T. or something so as not to differ from your brethren? People in Milo seem to be waking up a little about building a meeting house, but there is no one to take the lead unless it be Charles & he certainly cannot do much. The S. of T. hall is completed. Will probably be used for Universalist meeting house. All the new comers lately seem to be Universalists. I wish we were all fairly out of Milo. It seems probably now that C. will spend his days there. I wish he would get married & put an end to gossip. It is high time. I rather think they will 'wed' before spring, but don't know. You must come to the wedding at any rate. Albina is teaching school in the east part of the town. Oliver Furber the small school in the Village, E. Barker the large one & Mr. Mason at the corner. I am quite ashamed of this letter, but perhaps it will be better than none, and I'll try to write again better ere long. Affectionately Sister Lucy.[top of page upside down] Do write me a long letter soon. This has been written in no time, almost.
