User-Contributed Transcription I shall humor him any more - though I rather think this has benefited me. Shall not, at any rate, till this one is well. The first load of our house frame has come today. Have you heard of the death of Dr. George B. Rich? A good obituary notice in this week's paper. It is a very great affliction to his father. The Unitarian meeting house was burnt last Sabbath morning about day break. I believe there had been a fire built in it the night before. I don't know whether for a rehearsal, or to warm the house over night. The Society is well able, I suppose, and will probably rebuild soon.The Third Parish have raised $4800. towards a church among themselves - expect to get $5000 - and call upon their friends and neighbors for the rest. Joseph Wheelington will give a thousand and leave Hammond St. and join our church. Uncle Natty told Mrs. Tebbets that the reason why he sold land to Samuel so cheap was that he had been acquainted with his family and with his wife & family for a long time - That they were very fine people - he wonders how he got such a fine family into his house etc!Mother had a long letter (four closely written pages on a huge sheet of paper) from [unclear] Isaac Hudston of Exeter, last week- So prolix and polite, you can hardly imagine. Mr. David Barker of Exeter is about collecting facts & preparatory to publishing a history of Exeter from its settlement to the present time, and wants to know all about their little first school that Mother taught there long time ago.
