User-Contributed Transcription Written over the top:Lucy Mar. 4, '56 Bangor, Mar. 4 - 1856Dear brother IsaacYour good brotherly letter was rec'd a few days since & refreshed me greatly - It had been a long time since I had since I had been so favored before. You had probably not rec'd mine when yours was sent. The books and money arrived safely, as I think you have been informed. Samuel says that Eliab wrote to you, directing to Elyria, in relation to the grain speculation, &c. I am sorry you feel in such a quandary about business - wish I knew enough to advise & help you out of it. Why would'nt it do to come right to Bangor & open an office, as you spoke of - you know Uncle Natty said there would be found an abundance of business here - I dare say he would have his "real estate" all surveyed over every other week if necessary to[left side]With much love to Nettie & kisses to babies - ever your loving sister Lucy.[Written sideways across the top]One night last week a few hours old baby was left in a basket at the house of Isaiah Stetson - He being out of town with his family, Mrs. Hathaway in the other tenement procured a nurse & has the care of it till they return - I wrote to Mrs. Stetson and said it was of good parentage. Capt. Pendleton is comfortable, but his recovery is very doubtful.
