User-Contributed Transcription rigidity of the muscle of his face, so that cutting out the piece, (more than half the lip, in the form of V, the point running down to the chin) it was almost impossible to bring the parts together & keep them in place. He has another spot on his cheek & one on his neck which we fear will have to be taken out soon. This will disfigure his face a good deal, more, the Dr. says, than on some people where the whole lip & chin has been taken out, because his flesh & skin will give so little. O, it is a terrible thing - a cancer, anywhere; and especially in the face. They will have to stay here a week or ten days. He can take only liquid food yet, and that lying on his back with the point of a teaspoon laid in his mouth, having a very little at a time poured into that with another spoon so it will run down his Throat. He is just as patient as can be. I have not heard an impatient sound nor[left-hand side] Have I ever written to you that Anna bought me a beautiful silver cake basket when she was here - eleven and a half dollars.
