User-Contributed Transcription Lucy Sept. 5, 54 Bangorwithin two hours had twelve profuse, watery, odorless discharges - was so cold that with four or five hot flats, a jug of water and hot flannels, it was a long time before she got warm. Eliab gave her salts and water, which she thinks relieved her before the Doctor's medicine got here. Percie was rattled (?) & crying, Samuel gone for the Dr. Mrs. Bayly (Maria's nurse) with the crying wee baby, so Eliab had the whole care of Mother - he flew up & down stairs and did everything just like a wonder. Mother said when he could do nothing else he would come and kiss her. He is capital in sickness - seems to be half a woman at such times - I believe I have reason to know that all my brothers are good to care for sick folks, because thoughtful & kind.Well what a letter full I have written - not worth sending - Rufus Crosby is fixing to go out to Illinois - starts in a few days. Samuel & I rode down to Hampden a day or two since to see about a place for James, to go to school - had a nice little confab with Mr. Tash. His sister is there, Eveline Bartlett assistant the coming term. It is not yet decided what is best for James, whether to come here or go to Hampden - we can find no opportunity for him to work for his board, and board is very high. Yet he must go to school a while before going to a trade. Charlie is coming down here as soon as E. & M. go away, which will probably be in about a month - If Motherwritten up the left side:I had a letter from unclear Conant - Sam'l has got home - talks that he shall move out next - Sister say she dont unclear about for he cant get away - Henry 2 words unclear was very sick.
