User-Contributed Transcription The story was told occasioning no little merriment. He wrote an advertisement for next morning's paper, but after we got home that night about ten o'clock two Irishmen came (so smooth and good, you can't think) claiming it. Samuel told them it was safe for the present - he did not know what would be done with it, read them a lecture on the evil of having anything to do with it etc. They besought him not to let "them fellers" have it! He "didn't promise" either way. Yesterday he sent it to the watch house - will probably be poured out. I got your thimbles when I went for Sally's flannel - will send them by first opportunity. Why did you leave my old comb? I do not want it at all. In the evening of the day you went, Mr. Wallace called bringing another student, Mr. Allen, with him. Maria and I went with Nelly last Saturday down to see Margaret. She is failing rapidly - her Mothers sees it, and says she has felt that it must be so all summer, but could not bear to have it mentioned, and says she knows it is foolish & wrong, but she don't want anybody to speak of it now. Poor[left-hand side] with her Mother to let her stay till spring- says she is getting along so nicely 'tis a pity to leave. I don't know but she had better. I will
