Summary Travel journal of Frank M. Hibbard documenting a trip from Detroit, Michigan to Iowa City, Iowa in March 1857 in search of employment. Hibbard traveled by train from Detroit to Chicago; Janesville and Beloit in Wisconsin; and Dubuque, Iowa. He then traveled by boat to Davenport, Iowa and finally by train to Iowa City. Along the way, Hibbard has his Daguerreotype taken, witnesses a rooster fight, stays in a number of different hotels, attends a church service, and experiences his first riverboat ride.
