Mr. Charles L. Hutchinson
President of the Art Institute, Chicago
My dear Sir: Dr. James has interested me in the World Review published in the Fine Arts Building, and I have promised to help the editor during the summer.
Member of the faculties of Iowa University, Wisconsin, and Northwestern are on the staff of the magazine, and Dr. James is a contributing editor. Mr. Hamlin Garland and Professor [[Sparks?]] have already made contributions, and Professor Judson has kindly promised me an article.
It seems almost time for the great West to publish a high-class periodical of general interest, and this seems to be starting under the right kind of auspices. With the co-operation of the influential men of Chicago and the West, there seems to be little doubt of its ultimate success.
I know your willingness, in the midst of a busy life, to help in a good thing; and I thought you might be willing to contribute a short article on "The Art Institute and its Influence in the West." Director French tells me that there is a fine collection of cuts in the Institute that could be used for illustration.
If you can possibly take the time to do it, I am sure it will have a widespread interest and be especially helpful to the magazine. Perhaps, too, you may feel willing to give your judgment of the Review on the basis of the numbers sent.
Very truly yours
Horace S. Fiske
