Dear Jack -

Blake made a guilty plea and will be sentenced on Feb. 7. With his attitude he will probably arouse the ire of the judge and draw the maximum which is 5 to 10 yrs.  That’s a hard way to go for literary material. J. S. Bolch[[?]], I remember, once dug graves for a few hours and Wally has taken copious notes on occasion.  No one that I can recall has ever made such a sacrifice to belles lettre.

I’ve worked at the track now the three days it has been open. It is possible that I have a study job. Study for 40 days, that is.  I work in the Club house selling tickets to the  elite. Some elite! A drunkan[[?]] broad gave me a bad time today. If it hadn’t been for all those minks on he[[?]] back I’d of kicked her in the prat[[?]].  Minks are vicious I hear.

Will Jimmy & Margaret be coming down? I’ll reserve them a seat on the finish line. Lots of long ones, too. Yrs

B.
