User-Contributed Transcription (3)here. A short time ago the sheriff made a raid on our depot, & took out a lot of liquor in small packages, that lay there, consigned to various parties. The trial with reference to it was held yesterday at our county seat Meade. A number of our people went to attend it, including several ladies. I would have gone but could not do so very conveniently yesterday. The express company, I understand, put up no defense except some technical one in regard to the making out of the papers, which was overruled. The liquor was therefore proven to be contraband, and the ladies & others were given the privilege of smashing it. Our evangelist Mr. Wheeler was invited to go down to make a little speech in connection with the smashing - for the smashing process was pre-arranged, in case the temperance people should win. He took a bottle of whiskey in his hand, and made a neat little speech about it, and then held it aloft and called out, "What shall I do with it?" A big fat man in front of him
