Dear Mama,
That I am indowed with An ability of writeing to You, affords me sensations truely gratefull, but when I reflect Upon the great distance that subsists between us, and the length of time that has elapsed since I saw you, it reflects a gloom. Upon a feeling heart, - And often disturbs the sweet repose of an anxious mind. The glimmering beams of hope bid me Anticipate, that we shall yet injoy many hours together. I put my trust In divine providence, and cheerfully confide my cares in him Whose dictates I wish to obey without repineing. Often does the desponding shafts of misfortune oercloud the sunbeams of conjugal felicity, and break asunder the firmest bands, that entwined together the tenderest and endearing connections.
Alas! Upon how sandy a foundation are our expectations placed upon.
Let us not boast of tomorrow
