Description Eastland, with three pairs of lifeboats, at the Wells Street dock, Chicago, Illinois. The James S. Kirk & Company (a soap-manufacturing business who operated in Chicago from 1860 to 1930) factory is visible in the background. The Michigan Steamship Company owned the Eastland from 1903 to December 1905 and ran a 77-mile route on Lake Michigan between Chicago, Illinois, and South Haven, Michigan.
