User-Contributed Transcription the other at the house of the great man of the village Mr. Ely whose wife was a Day from Hartford does Marcia know any thing of them? The Ely family is from North Hampton. Last Monday in the midst of washing my good Susan was called suddenly home (three miles off) because her grand mother was dying; she was gone a large part of the week & I had so much more exercise than usual so as to get quite tired one or two days after she came back we baked eight loaves of cake. black cake, light fruit & sponge cake besides a 'lot' of my hard gingerbread for you must know I am to entertain the ladies sewing circle tomorrow afternoon & I expect a house full, for it is the annual meeting. a quilt is to be finished etc. so that the chamber will be occupied. I have with the efficient aid of my 'gude' man fixed my pictures, in frames, yet without frames that is a glass pasted at the edge by a narrow strip of white cotton cloth the edge just brought over the glass all round, so that the pictures stand firmly on the mantel & will ornament it. part are in our room part in my newly filled chamber. I received a short letter from Isaac about a week ago inquiring when we are going east saying he should not be able to leave longer than to accompany Netty here to go on with us; I suppose she thinks of spending the summer east & probably Isaac means to go on for her in the fall. I wrote her that we
