User-Contributed Transcription out of town that day, so he got a carry all, and we all, (six precious souls), went out to Dedham. Lucy went to see the fire works in the evening. Little James R. is a very clever, nice little fellow, sober, good natured, and knowing- will be four months old next Sat. Joseph's dear friend little 'Barney' has sent a letter to him, which I shall enclose with this, and you must forward it to him as soon as you can, and brother's too. I intend to start for Bangor the 20th of Aug. at which time I suppose you will not be then, I shall be sorry not to have you then, to go round with me and show me the improvements of the place, but I should be still more sorry not to be at home while you were there. You must write previous to my coming, and let me know whether you expect to be there or not, and, also, whether there are any books or clothes wanting, which I am to purchase. Write to me more particularly about the allotment of your time, about your work and study, and whether you have any time to read, and if so, whether your reading is only desultory or after a plan, and particularly do you read in the Bible every day with a sincere desire and effort to understand it? Do you prepare well for your bible class and are you benefitted by it? So you attend meetings as far as consistent with other engagements? finally Are you striving to grow wiser and better for eternity as well as for time? My time has nearly expired and the pain in my eye reminds me that I must stop writing, so Goodbye.Your affectionate SisterE.A. RichJ.S. MetcalfP. S. The Testament you mentioned I will endeavour to get and bring when I comeDear Isaac dont be frightened about Ann's eye it is only a spark of fire snapped so as to burn a little just by the corner it will be over in a day or so your sis
