User-Contributed Transcription to 40 young ladies: my task is pleasant and less laborious than any school I was ever engaged in, because more nearly of an age, and older, and I like it much to have some one to share the responsibility with me, I have two classes each of sixteen to whom I teach calisthenics, and I wish you could see them practice - it is a pretty sight, there are various graceful steps and figures in which they keep step and time to music: the Seminary is right across the street contains two school rooms and two class rooms; we have company in at the close of every month: my salary seems rather small for such a school, but Mrs.H. has had to make sacrifices and cannot afford more, it is a very important stand in respect to influence and Christian effort, and my situation is every say so much pleasanter than I did or had any right to expect, that I think myself highly favored, and can only wonder that where I expected trials, and hardships I should find every thing so pleasant. The family are Vermonters, genuine Yankees, only two children girls of 14 and 8 years, the elder had taken lessons in music and is preparing for Hadley school, but especially there is an aunt Mary in the family an elderly maiden lady who takes all the charge of the house no relation but has always lived with them, she is a pattern for me to imitate when I become a 'maiden aunt,' living round with some of you. The style of preaching here is much more animated than in old places, and the congregation far more alert and attentive: the style of Mr. H. seems really piquant but calculated to do good and keep the attention, he has very good talent and appears to be a very good man, he has a fine library which I shall take much pleasure in improving.Mrs. Hopkins is quite as earnest, quick, and straight ahead, as your sister Anne, and just about as frank and openhearted, with perhaps a little more prudence; so I think we shall get along pretty well together. Should you not think so?
