User-Contributed Transcription home: it must have been quite a trial to make inclination yield to duty. Mother and Almeda wrote me about Joseph and I felt very bad till I heard more particulars from Lung. I have since received two from him, one very short though: I do not feel discouraged about can hardly say I feel more anxiety about him than I have all the time for the last two years, for I have known he was violating the laws of his being both physical and mental - have been in fear that something would come upon him: now that he is making it his business to try to get well, I cannot but hope he will, he is so young and has so good a constitution, which he has injured in the worst way vis. by dissipation - though he has injured it. Probably he has received an injury to his spinal column already initiated by an overworked brain, nothing he can do, it seems to me will be more beneficial that the change of scene, air, and agreeable occupation of the mind, furnished by travelling: hope he will be satisfied to give up every thing like business for a year at least - there will be time enough then, and enough for him to do: hope he will spend some time with you and hope he will come here too, - a little expense is of small consequence compared with health. I do not want he should stay all summer at Milo for he will be lowspirited and fell the influence of the care, care, that ever reign paramount there. I feel that it is the hand of Providence that has stopped him in his course - has set him aside for a time to make him perhaps much more useful and happy - another three years like the last, would have left him a wreck in health if not in mind, now his leisure, relaxation from business will I rust with the blessing of God, bring back the fresh and healthy tone of mind of former years. Yo have not yet suffered care to crush and
