User-Contributed Transcription have some tranquil leisure evenings to spend in reading and enjoy them. We have almost finished together the 'Excursion" and it has a deep charm that I have found in no other poetry to an equal degree. We have borrowed "Wordsworth's poetical works' also a large book 'Christopher North's Recreations? &, very, quite delightful reading it is. A kind neighbor furnishes us with the New York Observer, the "Tribune' too we have when we wish. The sad accident at the school at N.York will doubtless be copied into Western papers. How dreadful and surprising too that a mere panic in a school should result in the instant death of fifty children. Eliab has owed me a letter several weeks & I feel quite anxious to hear from him to know what he is doing or means to do. Rec' a letter from Lucy about three weeks since with a plan of their new house; her own health seems to be a little better; I wish I could be with her this winter. Mother has probably returned to Bangor by this time. Lizzie Doe is spending the winter at Lamoile Burea Co. with some friends; had you not better send her book to her if practicable? Her youngest brother Frank somewhat of a wild madcap fellow, has been taken suddenly crazy and is now at the Insane Hospital Chicago. Mr. Hopkins of Racine has concluded to leave that place; his new church is burned down. It would give me great pleasure to receive a letter from you soon containing as many details about yourself as I have given in this. as your Sister Anna.
