User-Contributed Transcription pupil at Pittsfield. My week's vacation I passed charmingly in my own quiet and pleasant room the unpropitious weather and walking securing from intrusion. I wrote six letters, five of them to the folks at Milo giving all, a call. Thanksgiving day I was not so very happy- felt uneasy, as if out of place, thought of home of last year's spent at Lucy's, when I myself 'cooked the Thanksgiving', ( thereby hangs at rate) of the cold, clear invigorating air, the deep snow, the company (Crosby's) Thanksgiving eve,--the anticipations too, of the winter the family to be united in sweet companionship as we had not been for a long time.----- Mr. Tinker gave a splendid discourse upon the former time compared with the present- a retrospect and comparison embodying much information upon all matters of interest, it was inspiring, truly eloquent, leading the mind back into the past, and forward to the future furnishing germs for long trains of thoughts. I am much more pleasantly situated than at Mr. Ramsey's because more independent and retired. Miss Woodbury (my chum) and myself live as much by ourselves as if we formed a separate family almost. We have -like thrifty housekeepers- just purchased ten pounds of candles, at a bargain, being of better quality at a less price than ordinary.
