User-Contributed Transcription home, I have not become much acquainted yet: one thingI like, there seems to be occasional mingling of all together, nota few who claim precedence in every thing, I have had butfour invitations to tea since coming. There is sewing societyonce a fortnight which I suppose I should find for my interestto attend, so as to get acquainted, but I don't feel like goingafter school - perhaps I shall though after a time put myself upto it. I surmise the 'misses' of school do not like me overmuch, but I had rather have it so than to be too popularat best. Isaac sent me a letter stated Cuba less than a hundredmiles from me, and I did feel bad to think of his having beenso near me, and yet not see him. I am very glad he visitedUncle Humphrey: I want to go myself now; What doadvise me about my journey in vocation? I can visitUncle Humphrey, provided Isaac will write me more exactlywhere they are, or I can take a boat to Detroit andgo to Uncle Hall's; or I can go by water to Cleveland, thenceby canal to Zanesville to see cousin Jerusha; each, atabout the same expense - ten or twelve dollars. whichis but little more than my board would be here. How is it about the 'American Traveler!' does Charlestake it or has it been stopped? I want some Eastern paper toread - get little news beyond N.York if the east is best two dolls.I should like to take it and will you write me the address. The people in this good town all make rag carpetsabout once a year cut up old calico, old shirts, coldand every sort of thing that is old trash in a house:- great adotoo is made of housecleaning, walls whitewashed every springto take off fly marks though before almost like snow.[left-hand side]I am trying to save all I can so as to lay up enoughto retire from business one of these years--
