User-Contributed Transcription you must not blame me too much for writing so little home, for I have so much to think of & so seldom any length of time to sit down and write a letter in, that I put off setting about it though I might write a little at a time & so get a letter after while which I mean to do in future. My labours in school, are not very arduous now, having not more than 25 scholars. have had two new ones in the last fortnight and lost 5 or 6 from whooping cough, and for visiting my profits will be rather slim this term.even of the past term my avails were little more than enough to pay board & rent many dropped off the latter end of term but my board bill to pay from last quarter's bills, we $30,00, this term it will be about 24. I shall not make more than half as much as Lucy this summer, but probably I shall do in the fall & winter: I think it would be much better for ? page torn success and good policy to have the house painted, and why do'nt Charles let us know his conclusions he ought to have acted in some way two months ago, and not merely talked: I am afraid it is too late already to sell his cow to advantage, Joseph grumbles about the money he has already put into the schoolhouse, I do'nt see any prospect of being able to pay him more than the sent; he absolutely wo'nt be at the expense of painting it I cannot from the avails of my school; & if it is done at all it present, means must come from Charles, though of course at my expense. I have some idea of applying to the board of Education for the West for a situation as teacher and then if a chance comes sell the school house off and go.
