Dear Conroy:
Sorry I'm a bit late in answering your letter, X mas, last have work and all that prevented it. It rather tickled me that you recalled me from Pegasus (Noah Whitaker's). That was so long ago, I thought no one could recall. However, I'll be glad to read you some poetry, and p[[?]] of the type that appeared in Nativity as soon as I get started again after a necessary lull of activity which I have nearly weathered now. After I've seen your magazine I'll know more definitely what you care for in the line of verse.
No, the Albert de Jong of J.AMB. Haarlen is no relative. No mystery here at all, since in Holland the name De Jong is about as common as Smith is here, and quite as harmless. I would gladly attempt translation for the Dutch poets you mentioned, in spite of my pet theory that poetry can't be translated - which is an other matter of course. Since I was thirteen when I left the Netherlands, I am practically bi-lingual - and thus [[?]] [[?]] capable from time to time. I have been engaged at [[?]] translation for the Dutch, and am certain that [[most?]] poetry will offer no desperate difficulties. Thus, send them ahead, I'll try my darnest, I will [[frankly?]] tell you I can't if I can't.
Yours -
David P. De Jong
