Summary Undated ms., probably composed in Italy [Rome?], possibly around 1640, of a treatise by Amati Scipione on political issues relating to Italy. Scipione (d. ca. 1654), jurist, papal ambassador, and author of several political books dedicated to the Colonna family, presents eleven important political questions, most of which concern the relationship of the Spanish monarchy and the Italian state.  He discusses such topics as whether it would be better for Italy to have a local prince or a foreign power controlling the state of Milan; whether it would benefit Italy to have Spain govern Naples, Sicily and Milan; whether Spain should be allowed to fortify Milan's border; whether the Italian princes ought to rely on Spain; whether rulers of Italy ought to align themselves against Spain; and whether the Spanish states in Italy consider themselves part of the Spanish Crown.
