LENORE L. MACDONALD
Contemporary Club member Lenore Macdonald takes us from Chicago to the mountains of Northern New Mexico to explore the vital impact that Chicago civic and business leaders, corporations, institutions, members of the media, artists, and others had, over a century ago, upon fledgling art communities in remote mountain towns like Taos. Chicago’s impact on the art of Northern New Mexico first took hold in the mid-1880’s, when artists went to New Mexico to capture its clear, crisp lighting, its endless vistas and majestic mountains, and its inhabitants. Did they realize they would create a lasting legacy?
Lenore Macdonald, a retired attorney, is a native Chicagoan and part-time resident of Taos, New Mexico. She has served on the boards of Taos’ Couse-Sharp Historic Site/The Couse Foundation and the Millicent Rogers Museum and is passionate about Northern New Mexico, its art, and its history.
