Summary
Grant of nobility for Juan and Miguel de la Pena, residents of Soria, issued in Valladolid on Nov. 15, 1642. The "carta ejecutoria de hidalguia" for Juan and Miguel de la Pena, sons of Miguel de la Pena and Augustina Saenz de Rivaroya, grandsons of Juan de la Pena and Ana de Vera, and great-grandsons of Francisco de la Pena and Juana del Castillo, includes texts of earlier court judgments, beginning with the nobility status granted to Diego Diaz de la Pena in Granada on Oct 7, 1613. Nobility status for their father, Miguel, originally granted in Valladolid on Sept. 10,, 1624, is revoked by the Audiencia on July 4, 1637. Thus Miguel, and his sons Miguel and Juan, appeal this judgment, and present the testimony of many witnesses in support of their petition. In light of this new evidence, the judgment against the de la Penas is revoked on March 13, 1640. The "carta ejecutoria" is finally signed by licenciados Juan de Arce y Otalora, don Antonio de Campo, y don Paulo de Santiago on Nov. 15, 1642. An addendum, dated Nov. 24, 1642 in Soria, is a request by Miguel de la Pena to officially file the writ of hidalguia in the city archives for future reference. The execution of this petition, signed by clerk Bernardino Navarro, is dated Dec. 3, 1642 in Soria.
