User-Contributed Transcription I feel sure "they" wouldn't bother you for any lit coming to you - such action against anyone your age wd arouse people & they don't want that. I can't stomach "Time." We receive "Newsweek" - it's "not bad. " Why not try it instead? Yes, "we" sure are making gains & rather fast of late. "Red" China has achieved front-rank standing by her conduct at Geneva. It looks as if EDC were doomed. No. Africa is waking up. England insists on trading w/ USSR/ & Japan w/ China. The brutal action in Guatemala has stirred public sentiment in Latin America. But I expect things to get tougher in this bedevilled country in the desperate (long) final stand of Capitalism by its resort to fascism. Radio has just this minute reported that USA has furnished "parts" for Chiang Kai-shek to construct 200 landing assault craft for an invasion of the mainland - that all the Nationalists needed was these craft "& U.S. support" (vis the 7th Fleet?). Now they have both. Let's hope the mad venture ends as did Indo-China. As for news from "Bellamy Farms" the most important item is that we have definitely put this place on the market for sale. Both Bertie & I have worked for over 50 years & we want to ease up - & to have more time to work for Socialism & to travel about a bit. (One trip we want to take is to see you & to take a look at that concentration camp down there, where some of us may soon be "boarders.") We find this place too large to maintain unless we have at least 8 patients & that throws too much day & night care on Bertie. We cut the number to four but that means no margin for the living help, so I'll have to be goatherd & farmhand when a young friend now w/ us goes back to college in a week or two. Which will leave me too little time for "subversive" activities.
