User-Contributed Transcription Oct. 17, 1952Dear Jack -This is what I was trying to say about Hemingway - it's by Anthony West in the N.Y.'er: "Compared with the evil that sits smiling in the family group or mingles with the guests at a wedding in a neat suit, the evil that hides behind shutters in a red-light district is neither very deadly nor very interesting" (I presume the little petulant loss of the head at the end there, "nor very interesting," is to let us know that Mr. West is a jaded sophisticate, but he is an astute critic, I think. Anyway he says what I wanted to say, that evil is not as simple as a shark.Incidentally, they say that Zanuck is doing the Hemingway book for the movies. They're changing the title, calling it "My Brother's Kipper."One of the patients here is the delight of my life, Godfrey Lovett his name is, a former Field's buyer, who has put it all down and is now sitting on the sidelines making remarks. "Hurry hurry hurry keep up with the race, have a good time g'by," he says. Sunday he had a spirited row with the television set. He had been sitting close to the set, giving it a moody eye when the announcer started one of those
