User-Contributed Transcription W. Pinellas County Jail.Clearwater, Fla.Jan. 28. 54.Dear Bud,The oracle of Delphi-on-the Dunes was pissed, sure enough. I had a letter intimating that I had made a *flight-into-custody of my own volition. The boy is brilliant and it was a shrewd cast, but wrong. I'll own that it was in the back of my mind at one time, but after I became busy and comparatively content, I discarded it. Then Kismet stepped in and walloped me. That's what I get for harboring off-brand impulses.First reaction was dismay, but it's past, you can't stay dismayed very long, not and operate. I'm sweating out that contract, and trying to write under adverse conditions. The boys are a happy band of extroverts and concentration is difficult. But it marches, my brave. Doubleday they say "terribly intrigued" by what they've seen thus far, but they're still coy. I'm on the rack, Dad.Ol' Jack is a real stylish person, [??t] and scholar, his college was a boat. And Victor Bernstein's words were music. ButI wish they'd send me shosies, posies I don't need.ever,JimP.S. Ain't seen any magazine.[Doep] sent a smashing lot of paper. Stout fellow.'Ware the Equine!
