User-Contributed Transcription -3-and extract from me lurid information of some sort. He started out in that direction.Alas, the whiskey and his own store of guilty secrets were too much for him. He ended up telling me how he had tried to kill his tyrannical father when he, the son, was only seventeen. And there were tearful protestations of filial love and respect for the long-gone parent, who survived to die less spectacularly, in a bed.Quite an evening.Thank you for the Listeners and the two bucks. Both were very welcome and much appreciated. The Pritchett story was a gem (what a deft and astute fellow he is!) The bit about Margaret the barmaid - "Her black hair looked as if it had belonged to a former employer" - Inspired. Somehow I must get his "Mr. Belumele."The whole content and attitude of the magazine suggests once again that the British, whatever their present financial difficulties, are doing the kind of thinking which is and will continue increasingly to be required in the war of ideas. May they flourish. If you care to send any other British magazines, I should be glad to get them. Kenneth, the painter who lives here and is a sympathetic and sensitive soul, was also intrigued and would like to know more of what is going on over there. As ever,Blake.c/o Burns.Box 56Beetown, Wis.
