Summary Photographic reproduction of a 1748 copy by Sebastián López of Father Francisco Maldonado's 17th-century manual of Christian doctrine in Cakchikel, for use in teaching and converting the Cakchikel Indians. The manual contains a brief explanation of Cakchikel spelling and pronunciation, followed by twelve "dialogues" explaining the significance and practice of various aspects of Catholic worship.  Topics covered include the Ave María, Salve Regina, Creed, articles of faith, commandmants of the Church, prayers for the sick, a short catechism, grace before meals, and the benediction.  Other dialogues concern the declarations of those about to take communion, the examination of conscience before and after confession, the sacraments, the immortality of the soul, charitable works, and the symbolic meaning of the colors used during the church year and Holy Week.  There is also a Cakchikel-Spanish vocabulary list of terms designating family relationships (leaves [83]-[84]), and a table of contents.
