User-Contributed Transcription Carlos Montezuma M.D. Sterling? MassMarch 5th 1903My valued friend - I am aware that I am not owing you a letter but - as in conversation we do not - note in particular who spoke last - before speaking again why should we always do so in written converse so with my special friend I do not do so if I've a word to say. Thinking [unclear] you might soon favor me with one of your interesting letters, I decided I would ask you a question? In reading my Carlisle paper I read your address which pleased me much for you are a missionary and one that the white people need and you preach what you practice and practice what your preach, proving what the Indian can become by such practical unrefutable arguments as to convince sensible people (and others are not of much accord) that your ideas are right and should unknown then with respectful every member of the race who are doing well.I knew you had visited? Arizona but did know not you had seen your step mother. How did you find her did you learn anything of your father?I do not suppose you were in any locality that looked familiar to you from previous knowledge? were you? could not tell if it were near your former home. Have you any half brothers or sisters? It must have been both a pleasure and pain to be in Arizona again. I am very glad you were able to go to Carlisle especially since it is not probable that Cal Pratt will ever preside again. I know he ought not to be burdened with such heavy care much
