Dear Jack:
Got your recent letter + it warmed the cockles of my heart — but nowhere near as much so as those few days at Christmas time, all the moments of which I remember fondly — lovingly, gradually working up total recall. Of course I can't begin to thank you for the get together of all the beautiful Chicago people — [[?]] I won't even try, not in words; I feel it [[?]], I do.
Life in Radford drags [[?]] The climate remains the most fabulous thing I've ever known — no snow, practically no cold, little rain, mostly blue skies — + the rest of the atmosphere remains provincial + even foolish. A recent story in the New Yorker, called A Stranger in the House + written by Ogden Nash, symbolized Southern hospitality to me, as well as the heights + depths of Southern conversation.
