User-Contributed Transcription At sea,
Sept. 8, 1963
Dear Jack + Gladys:
We left Terre Haute on August 18, went to Maryland, where I worked on De Forest + finished all save the last chapter of that book, then went to New york + spent a few days, + finally boarded the Queen Mary on September 4. Life since then has been a round of eating, drinking, going to movies, + sleeping. I know I should be working on the last chapter of De Forest, but I can't get up the ambition to do anything. We're supposed to land on the tenth and then go to London for a week. After that we're going to tour Europe for a couple of weeks, pick up a car (a VW) in Frankfurt, + then in early October return to England + go on to the University of Keele. My address will be University of Keele, Staffordshire, England, U.K. — My mind has been a complete blank ever since I got on board the Q. M. All I know that's new is that I'm not affected by sea travel — and our voyage has been a cold, rough one — while Amy has been seasick a good deal of the time. The kids hold up well, except Jama whines a good deal. Shel + Matty are having a ball.
Love,
Jim
