User-Contributed Transcription I am glad too it happened by no carelessness of any of your men. The case seems to be one they had no power to control. It seems the Du Quoin people are not long without a preacher. I am glad they have on that "knows something" and has somewhat of his own to live on, it is fortunate. Will he begin preaching at the station? I have just finished Actes 26 & 27 in the French Testament - have read too some in Independent of Nov 9 to mother . How quick your last letter came, mailed Nov 7, and here Nov 11. I never received one quite so soon before. I wonder if you would not get mine sooner if I sent them via St. Louis? George is at home now, but will not be for long, I suppose. I love to have him here. Jenny will be home a week at Thanksgiving - will come the Saturday before. I shall want my dear Isaac there. How can I enjoy it without you - but I'll try; and then I'll have my real Thanksgiving when you come! I have just now lain little Mayo to rest. I have been thinking for some days it would be better to put him in bed and leave him to go to sleep by himself, so last night I began so doing. I should think he cried more than half an hour very hard. It made me almost relent but I did not go to him, and he went to sleep by himself at last. To night I did the same. He cried about one minutes as if his heart was broken - when he found I had left him again, then a few mournful ma, ma, and a long drawn sigh and he reposed himself to sleep. I stood at the door and watched him. I do not think he will cry at all next time. Monday afternoon. It has just stopped raining but is closely still. This is the third day it has rained.
