User-Contributed Transcription but a vague guess. From what inquiry I have been able to make I think P. psychodes have not been found in this Vicinity, but that ours are all P. fimbriata. the grandiflora of Big. The variations being but the different degrees of luxuriance in the growth etc. The specimens I have examin'd this summer vary considerably in appearance but all unsensibly melt into each other in All of them many of the characteristics of both according to Gray, are combin'd Gray's descriptions of these species appear to be very imperfect he has by no means seiz'd upon their distinctive Characteristics with his usual accuracy. Bigelows descriptions are perhaps better, you are probably mistaken in supposing psycodes to grow on our Riverbanks, the specimen not yet blossom'd which you brought, from there, ad for that the day before you went away remain'd in our pitcher till in full blossom. I think it the same species with that in the Swale; the flowers are alike tho' the leaves and general appearance are somewhat different. James had a boil on his knee but is quite well now. Write more particularly what & how you are doing, the occupation & prosperity of Alfred, Yank, Everett & all others you may suppose usself to be interested inCharles has hir'd a crocker chap call'd Charles Perigro half a month for 16$ pr month he probably get a pretty good trade for the lad is a great deal more than 16 inches high[upside down] Lucy writes that she is well and Smart and going is going to send Lucy A. home next week & that Eliab talks of coming up soon.
