My very Dear Son I am Sixty five years old the first of this month, & how like a dream it does seem to me only think of it almost seventy years spent & to how little purpose, when I look back I can not find enough of good to be worth counting or reconing any way, but I can see enough that calls for the earnest prayer for mercy & forgiveness & that the evil of my example of unfaithfulness and shortcoming and neglect of duty may be averted from my children. I feel disappointed at not seeing you this spring but comfort myself with the prospect of your being here the longer in the summer. It is so long since I have seen you& then you think of going away back there again & if you do I shall never see you much in this world. But that is of very little consequence if we may but all meet before the mercy-seat in Heaven no more to part. When I recollect that I lost one of the best of Mothers at 6 years old then was a neglected lacyney? in the family of my aunt most of the time for 5 years then with an illiterate violent temper'd Stepmother the petted, indulged only Daughter of a minister who had been previously married into a low Irish family wholy against the will of her Parents & brothers and the many vicissitudes through
