User-Contributed Transcription Arrived home in safety before it was quite as dark as Egyptian darkness it began to grow dark the fog was so very thick soon after we left Bradford from a MisBlunder or something about the Ostler we were detained longer than John intended. My back did ache before I got there, but got nicely rested. Felt considerable apprehension about getting home in safety on account of the darkness, but we got along nicely & all was well. There was no very striking appearance of displeasure on the countenance of Joseph or any of the rest but they all with one accord began to say they were sorry to see me and "kinder" scold me for not staying longer with you, that they could do without me just as well as not, i.e as they, better than you could. So that the danger seems to be that I shall not be wanted nowhere no how. I do want to know how you are this very day & how you are every day. If you are really getting strong-gaining in health & strength everyday. I should think that in a few days after Almeda gets there you could dismiss your Nurse & thereby get along with less expense and more satisfaction. Almeda is very kind hearted and capable, only like me she is apt to be a little negligent and forgetful-------If you see Eliab tell him not to get some paper to make some envelopes as Joseph requested some time ago and not to get at present Harpers new Monthly Magazine but give no more than 20 cents a number Isaac says that is the price.J.M to every body----if to be found in your precincts and you can bring em conveniently & spare em as well as not I should desire you, to visit: Ann to bring Telemaque, la Henriade , French testament, "Scotts poetical works of the last Minstrel" Greenleafs arithmetic, if you have it, key it to Emersons second part, 1/2 quire or one quire of envelope paper white would not be preferred unless equally as cheap, each of these commissions, to be deferred or omitted if more convenient 2 partridges were presented to me for which not having further use I transmit one to you
