User-Contributed Transcription Milo Aug. 28 1839Dear Sister, As I have not written any thing? to you Since you went away which can be called a letter I will begin at the beginning. I was sorry that I was up in the potato field when you went away so that I could not say goodbye. I started to come down but found it was too late. I am glad that you had such a good journey, and get along so finely there. The "posy patch" prospers finely. The heap by the privy is covered with Ari - colored violets & looketh pretty. The columbine (purple) looked pretty & is sprouting up from the root so as to look pretty next year The foxglove was very profusely covered with flowers & looked very pretty. The mullein pink mother says is very splendid. It really is, & has been and will be for some time to come. The flowers are purple. It looketh very pretty. The two pink roots from Mr. Hoxie's flower profusely & looketh pretty. There is some large double red sweet smelling poppies, and some small Double & bright red poppies very curis leaves etc. which looketh pretty. African Hibiscus & sweet peas blue bells catchfly, candy - tufts marigolds chrysanthemums white & red single poppies as usual.Our plaquey great new yelloy marigolds are just beginning to flow. We have abundance of White morning glories which looketh pretty & some blue & purple but no red ones. The kittens have grown greatly. and are very pretty.
