User-Contributed Transcription manner, on the subject of Education. The exercises of the day were interspersed with the reading of Compositions. We went upon the stage to read them, as usual, mine came in the last of the afternoon, thus giving me a long while to dread it. You would not be likely to imagine what was my subject - it was "The pursuit of gardening is production of good." I had not intended it for that occasion, but not having sufficient time to finish, to my mind, what I had designed, I made use of a substitute. In the evening, our Lecture Room, was filled to overflowing, and the exercise consisted of recitations, declamations, and dialogues, many of which were original. There was but a single composition read, in the evening. There was a French dialogue, in which all the scholars in French took part - this was quite amusing. We sung twice - at the close an original hymn appropriate to the time, composed by Miss McKeen, my room mate. Father did not go to M. to witness the closing exercises. But he met us at Goffstown the next day. It was extremely cold, but we did not suffer. George was obliged to get out and run a number of times in order to keep himself comfortable. On Wednesday, of vacation week, the day of the Visit, we greeted 120 of the parishioners - more than one eighth of the whole population of our town. They seemed a very happy company. We had an address to the young people, from one of their number - it was original, and very good. As usual, there was considerable singing and instrumental music. Mr. John Parker was here, Mr. Raymond, with his wife and sister Mary. Twenty young men made a very beautiful present, to my mother, of a China Tea Set. The names of the donors
