User-Contributed Transcription seem well and wanted some blackberry root for her - told me the great news of the day, which was that the night before thieves broke in to Mr. Cranes and took $40,00 worth of silver, into Mr. Goodspeeds & took half a dozen double plated spoons, tried Mr Cooley's and he heard and got up frightening them away. Got into Mr. Burks breaking two lights from a French window upsetting a kerosene lamp on to a nice carpet, and carrying off somethings. I forgot what. They tried to get in to the Dr's and got a window up in the Library, took out Anna's work basket, which stood on a table in front of the window and they found it in the grass outdoors by an over turned flower pot, and her gold spectacles missing from it. Anna was up several times in the night and went into the bathing room with a light and they suppose this only saved all their silver. They heard no noise at all I believe. No clue to the robbers. Dr feels as if he wanted to cane them, or take a poker to them, that was it, I guess. Everyone is sorry for poor Mr Crane. He says he shouldn't have believed it could have been done without rousing them.
