User-Contributed Transcription this week. A great tall ragged boy came yesterday too, and wanted to ascertain if Mr Maddock lives here. A Mr Mountain, tailor formerly working for Starr Brothers, now for Mendel and Spitzenberg, came to look at Riggs house. Said he would pay 1 dollar per week and pay at the end of each week. I told him about paying in advance. He said he never had, but would pay each week as above. I told him I would let him know if he would call again at to night after trying to have him wait for your return. He said he must have a house this week. Three children none very small. I went to Mr Tift of whom he had rented a part of the house just opposite Dr. DeWitt's. The gave him a good character, said he was honest & peaceable, knew his own business & minded it. She lived two years
