User-Contributed Transcription self so nicely and kindly provided for. And then you were where the advice of a physician could be obtained. Indeed, though the case was quite bad enough, it might have been far worse. Mrs. Merrill, the wife of our physician, was in yesterday, and told us about their oldest son, who is in Vermillion County, Illinois, about 15 miles from Danville. They had just received a letter, stating that he, and the family of his cousin, where he boarded, consisting of his wife and child, were all sick with the Ague and unable to do anything; and nobody to help there - fifteen miles from the Post Office, and from medical aid. Besides, the Doctor charges fifteen dollars a visit, so that sending for him would be a last resort. I was almost sorry I heard it, for I fancied at once that you too might be among the suffering ones. Dr. and Mrs. M. --feel sadly about their son. They feel his health will be entirely undermined. I believe he is not able to come home at present. You say I must think of you, and pray for you, and advise. The first two I cannot help but doing many times a day - nor would I. The advice is a more difficult matter, just now. You need some one who knows better what to tell you. But I believe I will write to you just what I think, though it may not be much help to you about deciding. Inasmuch as you have lived through the most sickly part of the season,[left-hand side] Your letters one mailed Sept. 25. and the last Oct. 9, I directed to Mt. Hawkins. Hope one at least has reached you before now. Do not try to accomplish too much and may heaven guide and bless you in all is the ardent wish of your ever affectionate Antoinette.
