User-Contributed Transcription missionary to Syria, and himself an appointed missionary to the same region, spent the day with us and preached. His heart seemed over-flowing with love to God, and the souls of men, and it seemed as though all must be made better by listening to him. He is quite young, but seemed perfectly at home as a preacher, and cannot fail to be useful with the warmth of religious feeling and depths of piety so manifest. He spoke of the amount of happiness of which Christians deprive themselves here and of glory hereafter by not living near to God, and what a fearful thing it is to go to heaven alone bearing no sheaves, when Good has made it our duty, and our privilege to labor to turn many to righteousness and promise His unfailing aid. The close of his sermon was exceedingly impressive - representing the entrance of such a Christian to heaven - saved "so as by fire."You ask what New Hampshire is doing for Temperance. There have been two very fully attended conventions at Concord, and since the last, Temperance meetings have been held all over the state and more lectures delivered than two years before. This shows that the people are fully awake on the subject. Of course we hope it will not stop with mere excitement and we do not think it can. Maine should not to be alone in so noble a work.My friend Miss Peavey was here lst week a few days, and we had a fine visit together. She wished you would come while she was here. She every anxious indeed to see you. She does not expect to be married now, before summer or perhaps Autumn.I hope to hear from you very soon. I cannot help thinking of the horrid ague occasionally now Spring has come again. But I think you will certainly let me know if you are not well. With best love, and best wishes, I amYours everAntoinette.
