User-Contributed Transcription to be nearer New England. But they will be content with what Providence appoints. The climate is the chief objection, in their view. What has occurred with regard to your pay must be exceedingly gratifying to you, not so much for the additional profit, as for the good will and confidence so decidedly manifested. I enjoy this with you. It is a delightful feeling to be conscious of gaining friends though in a strange land. Two weeks of brother George's vacation are gone. I went to Merrimack, to attend the examination at the close of last term and enjoyed it much, met many of my former school-mates there. I may have mentioned in a previous letter, that George is going to Meriden Academy. He expects to be admitted as a beneficiary there. We feel very glad of this, for now he can study without embarrasment. Father thinks he will stay three years if his health should be good. He has nearly decided not to send him to College, but to have him pursue an independent course, that he may avoid spending time with branches which will be nearly or quite useless to him. What think you of this plan? I cannot tell you how much I enjoy his being at home, but the pleasure will soon be past. He goes the thirteenth of this month. George has procured some dumb bells to take with him. Mother and I had a nice time trying them to night. After that we went out to see the sun set. This has been a delightful day, and its close was very beautiful. One of my new ideas is constantly dodging into my hear while I am writing perhaps wishing to be noticed on paper, so I'll put it down - "We never saw this day before." I wonder of there ever were two days exactly alike. Another sentence I read to day struck me very forcibly. It is, moreover, an old thought - in a new dress- 'Tis this - "I am a part of all that I have met." It is a solemn thought that we leave impressions on all we meet, as well as receive them.
