User-Contributed Transcription Merrimack Normal Institute, Feb. 6, 1851My dear friend, More than three weeks since, did I dispatch a letter in reply to yours received Jam. 8, and never a word have I received in return, though I have listened most intently, and questioned the East Wind of it burden; You must be, methinks, as weary way off that your answer should be so long in journeying. But seriously now, I have so much confidence in your punctuality, and regard for the happiness of this same little self, and possessing, as I hope, somewhat of the "Chasity that thinketh no evil, I feel some that you must have written, and your letter, by some accident of Post Office, have failed to reach me. so, I will write again to ask of you a substitute for the missing letter, for I confess that I am not over patient in sustaining such losses. We are on the verge of a closing time, tomorrow is our last great day. There is to be public examination continuing all day, and rhetorical exercises are to occupy the evening, so I must be very busy studying to day. I have part in a dialogue for the evening, and some music to practise, so I must deny myself the pleasure of writing
