User-Contributed Transcription your friends, that he endures what must be a great affliction, with so much fortitude. I do hope he will yet be fully restored.Miss Cook, the young lady who had been sick so long - of whom you heard us speak when you were last at D- died just three weeks since. It is just three weeks to day, since I assisted in arraying for the tomb, her lifeless body, - the frail casket - whence a priceless jewel had so recently departed - It was the first time I ever aided in a duty so mournful, and I hope it did me good - I should be sorry if it did not - Death never before seemed to me so solemn a reality - Miss C- was uniformly cheerful, through her sickness, and seemed happy and resigned, to the last moment - she took her Father's hands just before she died, and said to him, "Father, I am going, and I'm willing" - I have thought many times since, how full of meaning were those words.I am reading "Washington and His Generals" now, but I make slow progress - find very little time to read. You recollect, perhaps that Jack Frost assailed my rose bush, a number of times last Winter, and made it look very disconsolate - I wish you could see it now - it has two beautiful little buds -I had almost forgotten to tell you that I had a nice ride in the cars to Manchester, about a week since I enjoyed it much - there were 52 persons in the car that morning, I believe -I need not tell you that I should be happy to see you, or, if this may not be at present; to hear from you again -Yours ever-Antoinette-
